SPD in general gives one a superior connection to the bike. in comparisons, eggbeaters and their derivatives gives you a floating sensation (sucks...), fall apart and require non-stop maintenance. I dig em because they are simple, take a beating and work great....plus they work good with mountain bike shoes and use the SPD style clips.
